Dear New Homeowners,
Welcome to our home! My name is Paula and my husband is Jack. This has been our home for the past 30+ years (married for 45+). When we moved to the Seattle area, we wanted our daughters to be in the Northshore School District, as it’s one of the best in the state. We found out that houses in this area were much more expensive than we had anticipated, so we bought a “fixer-upper” and over time, designed it to be our “forever” home. As it transitioned, our girls called it the “Wizard of Oz House” . . . Kansas on the outside and Oz on the inside. It’s a great description!
One of my favorite rooms is the family room and kitchen (guess that’s two). It’s the entertaining center of our home, and I love to be cooking, while still being close to the “party”. We have great memories of the “events” in our home, from the 24+ people for Seahawks games to Christmas Day mornings with the family to a quiet evening with the two of us watching a movie on TV. Another favorite is the dining room, which used to be the living room. With the three table leaves, we’ve had up to 16 people gathered around the table for formal dinners, as well as casual suppers.
Other features we love include no stairs from the car to the kitchen (only 15 steps!), off street parking for seven vehicles, the number of cupboards, the pocket doors to close off the noise from the family room, no carpeting, the central vacuum system, Corian around the windows (as easy as wiping countertops), the whirlpool tub, the steam shower (so great when you’re chilled to the bone), two fireplaces and the new heat pump (very popular house during the summer heat).
The Holly Hills community is a wonderful place to live and raise children. Our girls walked to elementary school and high school (after getting cars, they thought they had to drive 😊). We have great memories of playing on the playground with our girls and our granddaughter, making an attempt to play tennis and taking part in the activities in the Clubhouse. The wedding reception for one of our daughters was at the Clubhouse – so convenient and such a beautiful day!
We’re going to miss a lot about this house, but the memories of our home will last forever. Watching our little girls transition to beautiful young women is one of our greatest memories, and part of their “can do” attitude is from watching this house being transformed. Now that we’re both retired, we want to travel more, and be less tied down. It is our hope and prayer that the next owners will appreciate all the features of this house and make it their “forever” home too!
